D4.2 Manual of CLRA-COIL for Democracy

'Community-Led Research and Action’ (CLRA) with ‘Collaborative Online International Learning’ (COIL) otherwise known as CLRA-COIL democratic methodology, is being used in our YOUROPE project to promote a reciprocal environment of learning and action, recognising the significant role of education institutions in advancing European citizenship and democracy.

This CLRA-COIL Manual for Democracy is intended to provide relevant details, explaining the background, considerations and circumstances which had led to our learning about the use of CLRACOILs as an innovative pedagogical approach in the context of its use in YOUROPE. The core objectives, philosophies, and research practices that are included in this resource are shared as a means to guide the reader to the scope of this work and how CLRA COILs can be adopted in wider
educational contexts.

It is noted at the outset, and in the content that follows, that this Manual serves as Version 1.0.

It is important to note that this first version has been written at a mid-point in the YOUROPE project timeline (month 17 of 36 to be precise). As such, we are reporting on what we have considered, accomplished and learnt to date, knowing that our understanding and scholarship will progress, and we anticipate, in substantial and swifter ways in this next phase of the project timeline. Our learning can accelerate as CLRA practices have been implemented in more widespread ways and youth-led themes are coming forth from which ‘Transnational Conversations’ and opportunities for crosscontextual learning through CLRA-COILs can be meaningfully employed through our multicultural online learning environments emphasising experiential student collaboration.

We look forward to what we learn next.
